🌊 The 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami was a wake-up call for the world. With 230,000 lives lost and $10 billion in damages, it exposed the devastating cost of not having Early Warning Systems (EWS) in place.
Since then, we've made progress. The Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning System now protects millions in the Asia-Pacific. But gaps remain. Many communities, from small island nations to rural areas, are still at risk.
Here’s why we need to invest in EWS:
Every $1 invested in EWS saves up to $13 in disaster response and recovery. Advanced EWS can reduce disaster-related deaths by up to eightfold. Comprehensive EWS can cut disaster losses by 30–50%.
🛑 It's not just about warnings — it’s about risk knowledge, monitoring, communication, and preparedness. We have the technology. Now we need the investment. Early Warnings for All can ensure that we protect every community from the next disaster.
