Let's now go live to our Yoo Li-an - she joins us from the Paengmok harbor in Jindo-gun county where search-and-rescue operations are underway.
The harsh weather earlier this afternoon halted search-and-rescue efforts this afternoon.
When will operations begin again?
Everyone here is on standby to resume the rescue work as soon as the weather calms.
There's a special team stationed here in the coastal city of Mokpo involving all relevant state agencies .
Three large-sized cranes are set to arrive here by 4 p.m. tomorrow and the team will try to haul up the vessel with them.
But given the vessel weighs 68-hundred tons, it may takes weeks or even months to transfer the vessel to a safer location.
What's been going on at the search-and-rescue site?
What can we expect from now on?
The Sewol ferry capsized roughly 40 kilometers from where I am standing.
- rescued students and passengers were moved to the Jindo Indoor Auditorium, relief center and those injured to the Korea University hospital
- the bad weather has actually halted rescue operations -- the strong currents, rain, and the heavy fog is giving very low visibility
- tides are as high as 1-point-2 meters, water temperatures 11 degrees
- 2 p.m.: three divers have been swept away by the strong tides when trying to get back on the rescue boat and rescued within an hour by local divers here who have joined in on the search efforts
- time running out for those trapped, but the rescue team is having a hard time getting into the waters
- there were high hopes early on,.. as the coast guard was planning on pumping air into the ship to help potential survivors trapped in airpockets within the sunken part of the vessel
- that plan has been delayed leaving many here distraught
Li-an, do keep us updated in our next newscast.
