Wednesday 3rd August saw 46100 'Royal Scot' at the head of 'The William Shakespeare' railtour from Crewe to Stratford-upon-Avon. The tour originated from Carnforth behind Class 47 traction, with 46100 joining the train at Crewe for the run down to Stratford and return.
My plan was to capture 46100 at several locations on its way down to Stratford and vice a verse on the return journey. However due to a cable theft in the Tyseley area, my plan very quickly disintegrated, resulting in a last minute decision to capture 46100 at Stafford.
However the day wasn't finished us yet as news came through that due to a Network Rail Steam ban in the Midlands, it had been decided that the 47 (47828) would drag the tour back to Crewe with the Scot on the rear.
In this brief video, we capture the tour at two locations, Stafford and Tyseley. The outward clip of 46100 being at Stafford, where the Scot is seen trundling into the station for a pathing stop, before continuing her journey to Stratford. Our final shot sees 47828 leading the tour back Tyseley bound for Crewe.
Not quite the day I had in mind.
