Athmeeya Rajan was pursuing B.Sc. Nursing when she got her first offer for a movie by Seven Arts Mohan. Hailing from the district of Kannur in Kerala, Athmeeya has acted in five films in the last five years since her debut in 2012. She started her career as an actress from a Tamil movie titled ‘ Manam Kothi Paravai,’ opposite actor Sivakarthikeyan. The film got released on 1st June 2012 and was directed by Ezhil. Even though acting was not a career preference for her, she was interested enough to accept the offer. She kept her acting on hiatus to complete her studies, after which she took up film offers one after another.
Her second movie was in Malayalam – Rose Guitarinaal – in 2013, written and directed by Ranjan Pramod. Atmeeya played the lead role, named Thara, opposite Richard Joy Thomas and Manu. The movie failed to please the audience, but Athmeeya’s talent got a lot appreciation. Her third movie was again in Tamil ‘Pongadi Neengalum Unga Kadhalum’. She played the lead role along with Karunya and Ramakrishnan. The movie release was in 25th April 2015 and was directed by Ramakrishnan. Her next film was ‘ Amoeba,’ a Malayalam movie, released in 2016. It was a film based on the endosulfan tragedy.
She played the role of a daughter who is the victim in the film. The movie went on to win the ‘Second Best Film’ Award that year. In her new project – Kavviyyan – she is working with another female lead Sridevi Kumar and is casted opposite Shaam. Athmeeya’s father, K V Rajan, is a drama artist. She initially wanted to pursue Clinical Psychology or Journalism. Since her elder sister Athira pursuing B.Sc. Nursing, her mother influenced her to join the same. Athmeeya also mentioned that she is planning to go abroad with her sister and pursue MBA in future.
