The Ensemble intercontemporain performs Mozart, Saunders, Braud (world premiere), and Feldman With Geoffroy Jourdain and Les Cris de Paris at the Fondation Louis Vuitton
Program Notes:
Experience an evening of musical transcendence with the Ensemble intercontemporain, founded by Pierre Boulez in 1976 and currently comprising 31 exceptional soloists under the baton of Pierre Bleuse. This extraordinary ensemble graces the stage at Fondation Louis Vuitton with a meticulously curated program, highlighted by the world premiere of a commissioned piece.
Joined by the exquisite vocal ensemble Les Cris de Paris, under the direction of Geoffroy Jourdain, the EIC pays homage to the legendary artist Mark Rothko. Rothko, who aspired to elevate painting to the emotional depth of music and poetry, inspires a unique sonic journey.
The performance commences with Mozart's Adagio and Rondo K. 617, Mozart's final chamber work originally composed for glass harmonica but interpreted today with the ethereal tones of the harp. Transitioning seamlessly, the musicians delve into "albescere" by the London-born composer Rebecca Saunders, a piece for twelve instruments and five voices, utilizing vocal textures to complement the instrumental landscape.
Not to be missed is the world premiere of "Infigure" by Augustin Brand, a captivating composition for solo violin, adding a contemporary dimension to the evening's repertoire.
The program culminates with Morton Feldman's iconic "Rothko Chapel," a poignant homage to the artist. Inspired by Rothko's eponymous creation and the solemnity of its setting, Feldman's composition evokes a sense of timeless contemplation, akin to the solemn grandeur of ancient temple friezes.
Join us for an unforgettable evening of musical innovation and artistic homage, as the Ensemble intercontemporain and Les Cris de Paris transport you through the transcendent realms of sound and vision.
