Hi and welcome to storyloop.
Located just 5km north of Heidelberg at the foot of Odenwald, Dossenheim and Schriesheim is one of the best places to visit if you are looking for non tourist or offbeat places to visit near Heidelberg.
This video is shot in the winter of 2020 when the world was struggling with pandemic. We often look forward to traveling but this pandemic taught us to look for beauty around our corners. And hence welcome to this video on my beautiful neighborhood.
We live in Dossenheim and this winter I explored my neighborhood and nearby Schriesheim anew. The snow capped landscape further mystified the often visited roads and mountains.
To talk about Dossenheim and Schriesheim, a walk through the wilds of Dossenheim, will take you away from the hustle of city madness. The ruins of Schauenberg offers a mesmerizing view of the Rhine plains. If the air is clear, you can also see the cities of Ludwigshafen and Mannheim. The nature park of Dossenheim has much to offer as well.
Next to Dossenheim is Schriesheim. The arranged rows and columns of the vineyard is a treat to the eyes in every season. If you reach the higher slopes, the sight of the hill overlooking the town won’t fail to disappoint you.
Another attraction of Schriesheim is the castle of Strahlenburg. This ruin is the perfect adornment that elevates the look of the vineyards. Inside the ruin, there is a restaurant - Burggasthof Strahlenburg. Who wouldn’t enjoy a drink (or meal, if hungry) with the view of red rooftops of the old town, slope of the vineyard and the beauty of the horizon.
I highly recommend you to visit Schriesheim and Dossenheim. It has amazing biking and hiking trails through the Odenwald mountains.
How to reach Dossenheim or Schriesheim?
You can come to heidelberg hbf or Mannheim hbf and then take a no. 5 tram. Alternatively it is also accessible by road or Odenwald bike trails.
