MK4 Jetta TDI Cold Start at -22C (-7F)
In this video, I try to start my uncle's MK4 ALH Jetta TDI Wagon on a cold winter day in January out here in Whitby, Ontario.
-22 degrees celsius -- the car has no frost heater, is not garaged, has a broken glow plug.
It pretty much goes the way you would guess. Not surprising.
5 ways to have a better chance at starting your 1.9 diesel when it is freezing out (applies to BEW engines too):
1. Have a good battery
2. Good set (4) working glow plugs
3. Fuel filter change every 2-3 years
4. Frost heater with a timer
5. Keep the car in the garage where its warmer
Hope this helps!!!
