We head to Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake, for Episode 3 of our ‘Story of a Golf Club’ series. With a proud and rich history in the game, and producer of some of the finest Open champion golfers of its generations (Woods, McIlroy, Thompson, Harold Hilton and of course the legendary RT ‘Bobby’ Jones who won there in 1930 on his way to the Grand Slam), it’s easy to see why it’s globally revered. Hoylake members Joe Pinnington and Sam Cooper help share some of this with us, and talk about some of the most significant moments in the clubs years.
‘Mighty winds, mighty champions’ as Bernard Darwin described it. Only the best prevail here and the course is a great examination of your own golfing ability. The varied routing never gives you a chance to settle, and with the recent changes by Mackenzie and Ebert over the winter with the introduction of the new par 3 15th hole ‘The Rushes’ it’s even more exciting than before!
Royal Liverpool is a special place, a superb club and course, incredible history, and an even more exciting future!
We will be travelling the length and breadth of the UK & Ireland, helping to share the rich tapestry that is the story of our wonderful golf clubs, sharing the history, folklore that have become fact over time, taking an aerial look at course architecture and showcasing the clubs and their unique ethos.
