You may be asking yourself, "should I self host?" We'll talk about that in this video.
Self-hosting your applications at home has a number of potential downsides, including:
- Cost: You will need to purchase your own hardware, which can be expensive. You will also need to pay for electricity and internet access.
- Complexity: Self-hosting can be complex. You will need to set up and maintain your own hardware and software.
- Reliability: If your power goes out, or your internet connection goes down, your applications will be unavailable. And if your hardware fails, you will need to replace it before you can get your applications back up and running.
- Security: You will be responsible for securing your own hardware and software. This can be a challenge, especially if you are not familiar with security best practices.
In addition to these downsides, self-hosting may also not be the best option for everyone. If you are not comfortable with the complexity and security risks, or if you do not have the time and resources to invest in self-hosting, then it may be better to use a cloud-based hosting provider.
Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to self-host your applications is a personal one. There are both pros and cons to consider. If you are not sure whether or not self-hosting is right for you, I recommend talking to a trusted IT professional.
