Cupra Leon First Drive - A Composed Brute
Hello guys, and welcome back to Car Obsession. A while back I tested the new SEAT Leon, now it's the turn of the Cupra Leon, the spicy one. I was lucky enough to have a quick spin in one to see what it has to offer and whether it's any good.
As you would expect from a VAG hot hatch, it's powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged four cylinder petrol engine (the famous EA888 unit), which offers 300hp (310hp for the 4Drive Estate) and 400Nm of torque. For the hatchback this power is fed to the front wheels but the XDS is there to assist with traction in the corners.
0-62 is dealt with in 5.3 seconds, and the top speed, as you would expect, is 155mph. Helping to transfer this power to the front wheels is a 7-speed DSG. There a four driving modes to choose from; Comfort, Sport, Cupra and Individual. There's no limited slip diff available, but as standard, the Cupra Leon gets VAG's XDS.
