Trupti Panda sings Rabindrasangeet in Oriya. She has recorded two Oriya Rabindrasangeet albums - "Tume Sandhyara Meghamala" (12 love songs of Tagore) and "Hey Jibananatha" (12 devotional songs from the Gitanjali). This song is from her first album. Out of 2,400-odd Tagore songs, she has chosen 24 most popular songs for this project. Oriya translations are by Prof. A. C. Sukla.
Trupti is the first singer to sing Tagore songs in Oriya. She pays a befitting musical tribute to Tagore's long connection with Orissa and deep affection for Oriya people. Tagore owned vast ancestral property in coastal Orissa. He had visited Orissa a few times and had written the famous dance-drama "Chitrangada" in his farmhouse in Orissa. In a speech, Tagore had referred his connections with Orissa for over a century and had said, "I belong also to Orissa." He was also keenly interested in Oriya literature.
