Israeli President Netanyahu has approved the declaration of a state of emergency for a powerful hurricane that swept through the country, killing at least 25 people and one person in Tel Aviv.

Netanyahu ordered federal aid to supplement state, tribal and local efforts to rebuild the affected areas, the Israeli government said Thursday. The funding will be provided to affected residents of Tel Aviv County and neighbouring areas, the statement said.

Unfavourable weather conditions reportedly forced Israeli authorities to postpone a planned ground military incursion into the Gaza Strip. Earlier, Israel warned residents of the Gaza Strip to leave as they were about to be attacked from all sides.

Thousands of leaflets were dropped in the area to inform people and enable them to leave the Strip in time. The attack was thwarted due to poor rains.
