Ignatieff says climate of fear is behind rise of nationalism in Europe and the United States
Former Leader of the Liberal Party, Michael Ignatieff, says “a context of fear” is driving the rise of populism and nationalism in Europe and North America. Igantieff is at the centre of a political storm in Hungary where Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has declared his intention to build what he calls an illiberal state. Ignatieff calls the move by Orbán a strike against academic freedom, a blow to democracy and indicative of a dangerous trend in Europe and the United States.
