Barbados is being told it needs more renewable energy plants to be set up here to increase jobs in the sector.
This is the view of Energy Minister Senator Lisa Cummins.
She made the comments during a hand over ceremony of the Local Content Development Programme at the Trinity Business Centre.
The programme is a series of initiatives supporting Barbadian suppliers, manufacturers and service providers with the hope of increasing access to international market opportunities in the emerging energy industry.
Senator Cummins says to effect change in the sector, more jobs need to be created for locals which will build future institutional capacity in the country.
She says Government would also like to see institutions established for greater training in energy renewables, as this will also better position the island to share its energy tranformation agenda with its neighbours.
