For some reason les toilettes tends to be used in the plural in France
May I use the toilets please?
Je peux utiliser les toilettes s’il vous plaît ?
The hole in the ground toilets are called Turkish style toilets
Les toilettes à la turque
Sometimes you’ll hear the toilet referred to as:
Les WC (pronounced vay-say) from Water Closet 🚾 and the term Les waters comes from there as well.
You can’t ask for the bathroom because in French la salle de bain is literally where you take a bath 🛀🏽
Some funny expressions for the toilet:
Le petit coin (the little corner)
Le trône (the throne 🚽👑)
And the more vulgar but commonly used term among friends is
Les chiottes !
