Gengenbach is a small picturesque village in the south west of Germany, located half way between Karlsruhe and Freiburg and not far from Strasbourg.

The Christmas Market is beautiful and offers some typical food, mulled wine or other hot drinks, as well as souvenirs and handcrafted goods.

The particularity of this Christmas market, which attracts many visitors, is its big advent calendar on the building of the city hall, which opens a new window everyday until Christmas and reveals a nice painting. This year they are by the illustrator Olaf Hajek. In the past some very famous artists such as Marc Chagall or Andy Warhol decorated the windows of the city hall.
