The sighting of this little green beauty created an unprecedented buzz among the local birding community. Believed to be extinct in Singapore since 1941, this male was sighted about 2 weeks ago at Pulau Ubin, Singapore. Some have speculated that it was a rare non-breeding visitor from nearby Johor, West Malaysia, just across the causeway. It could also be an escapee from the caged bird trade.
The Green Broadbill's status is Near Threatened, due to habitat loss.
