STORYLINE:
French Prime minister Francois Fillon arrived in Beirut for a two-day visit on Thursday, during which time he was expected to hold talks with top Lebanese officials.
Fillon was given a ceremonial welcome at Beirut international airport by Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Saniora, after which they inspected a guard of honour.
Later the two leaders held talks at the airport's VIP lounge.
Fillon will meet Lebanon's President Michel Suleiman later on Thursday.
He is expected to meet Lebanese and French businessmen on Friday before going southern Lebanon to meet French troops based there as part of the UN peacekeeping force.
