A time lapse video of the drive between Twin Lakes, CO and Aspen, CO via the Independence Pass. This pass reaches an elevation of 12,095 ft (3,687 m) on the Continental Divide. A scenic overlook near the pass allows visitors to take in the alpine tundra environment above treeline, and offers excellent views to the east of Mount Elbert, Colorado's highest peak and the second-highest mountain in the contiguous United States.
Founded as a mining camp during the Colorado Silver Boom, Aspen is a popular destination among tourists for skiing. Aspen’s beautiful scenery and open space also lends itself well to other types of winter recreation, such as cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, fly-fishing and even hot-air ballooning.
