Whether you have a gap in your employment history because you took time off to be a stay at home parent, a caretaker, travel, or go back to school.
You may even have a gap of unemployment because you were fired or laid off.
There are 3 different strategies to take.
1. You are currently employed but have a gap of unemployment in your career history. Make sure to focus on your most recent position
2. You are currently unemployed and have a significant career gap in your past. Focus on what you have been doing during your time off work.
3. You are currently unemployed and have a significant career gab and don't feel like you have any experiences you can highlight on your resume. Focus on your last full time position and build it up on your resume to best relate to the role you are applying for.
Whatever career gap you are in, you need to network and build out your connections.
No matter what gap in employment you are dealing with, make sure you don't overshare when talking about your gap of unemployment. Also don't state that you are unemployed or seeing employment on your resume or your LinkedIn page because it doesn't come off as assertive.
