▬ The current state and WPD's role ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
We face a time of exciting change in the energy sector – with energies and technology changing rapidly. WPD has a vital role at the forefront of the UK shift to a smarter, greener, and lower carbon energy future. The UK government has set a target to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and at WPD we are determined to drive that change and not just to adapt to it.

For example, our plans will help to facilitate the swift roll-out of electric vehicles, a key step to the decarbonisation of transport across the UK.

At the same time, we've heard from our stakeholders that lowering WPD's own carbon emissions and minimising the impact of our own operations on the environment is of paramount importance. For this reason, my colleagues and I have been working hard to develop proposals with our stakeholders in our business plan section which covers delivering an environmentally sustainable network. Within this section of the plan, we are proposing 31 commitments, which are split into 5 distinct focus areas:

For environment and sustainability we are proposing to replace 62% of our transport fleet with non-carbon technology by 2028.

▬ Digitalisation ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
For digitalisation we are proposing measures to ensure that the network capacity is available for customers to connect low carbon technologies.

▬ Distribution system operations ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Our commitments to distribution system operations include holding energy surgeries for local authorities to support them and developing their net zero energy plans

▬ Innovation ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
For innovation we are planning to develop an interactive innovation ideas portal for stakeholders to provide suggestions and engage in our future innovation projects.

Likewise, we are proposing to establish dedicated innovation projects for community energy schemes
