How sins cause you to lose out on much good in this life and the next.

The perspective of loss, lost out opportunities of doing good (deeds) when you obey your desires and commit a sin that (those desires) called you to. How much goodness and virtue do you lose out on, because of it?

How much you lose out on due to the influence and impact of sin on your opportunity of reaching and attaining the completeness of eemaan.

Look at this meaning about loss in the speech of the Prophet may Allah's blessings be upon him;
"No one who commits Zina is a believer at the moment when he is committing Zina; no one who steals is a believer at the moment when he is stealing; no one who drinks wine is a believer at the moment when he is drinking it."

So how much of this virtue, goodness and eemaan is lost? So, by this disobedience and major sins, a people aren't called (named) except it's said to them

a mu'min fasiq (lewd), or a mu'min fajir (immoral), or a mu'min who is sinful, or the likes of that which points towards the sin that was committed...
