Paul Driver was for many years a music critic, contributing to varied periodicals in London and the USA, and broadcasting on Radios 3 and 4. His publications include Manchester Pieces, a book of stories and essays; the novel A Metropolitan Recluse; the verse pamphlets Four Elegies, A Verlaine Dozen and A Musical Gathering; and the poems for Andrew Toovey's cantata As and When. Poems from A Verlaine Dozen have been set to
music by Ian McQueen.
