Deborah Cheetham Fraillon is a celebrated soprano and opera singer who has spent her career pushing the boundaries of her art.
She's a member of the Stolen Generation and found her way back to her Yorta Yorta people and culture – composing a landmark opera about an important moment of protest.
Earlier this year, she was named the head of vocal studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music – the highest position ever held by a First Nations person at the prestigious institution.
There, she's working with performers and composer to apply and Indigenous lens to the western opera tradition.
