The actress Thandie Newton has opened up about a disgusting incident of sexual abuse early in her career.
Ms Newton who’s appeared in block-buster hits like Mission impossible claimed the abuse happened during an audition when she was 18-years-old.
Now 43, the actress made her admission, during an interview with W magazine, about how a director asked her to ‘touch her tits’ during an audition, The Mirror reports.
She explained:
A director, on a callback, had a camera shooting up my skirt and asked me to touch my tits and think about the guy making love to me in the scene
I thought, ‘OK, this is a little weird’, but there was a female casting director in the room and I’d done weird stuff before so I did it.
After the bizarre request things took a sinister turn when some years later a producer at the Cannes Film Festival bumped into her.
The drunken filmmaker explained that he’d ‘seen [her] recently’ before lurching away.
It was only later when Thandie’s husband asked the man to explain himself that he confessed to being shown the audition tape by the director, who screened it for his friends so ‘they would all get off on it’.
Thandie has said she hopes her honesty over the incident will help other young actors avoid going through the same experience, adding she was ‘so naive’ back then.
She said:
I was so so naive when I started out and I realise now that we have to prepare our kids … one person will read this and it will stop them getting sexually abused by a director. That’s the person I’m interested in.
Her admission comes just weeks after allegations were made about another prominent Hollywood director.
