Specific Gravity = Dry Weight / Submerged Weight
Two ways to improve the results:
1. Subtracting the submerged weight of the string, just drop the string in the water first and get the submerged weigh to subtract.
2. Have a better Scale with two decimal places 0.00 g ! [Credit] Jade Nephrite

“A method to derive the unknown density of an item from the known density of another, in this case water.” -Paraphrased from the internet, a lot of good sources online if you’re interested in learning more
A good technique for large bullion and items that don’t have easily found specs in a data base. I have read that counterfeiters have tricks to pass this test, so just like any other precious metal testing method, be sure to use multiple! The more verifications the better.
Specific Gravity. Try it. Super easy, educational, and potentially very useful.
Side Note: just rewatched this video before posting and saw that nickel has a specific gravity of 8.9 which is very close to copper at 8.96, because the magnet reacts with the fake ASE coin like it’s diamagnetic and the ping sound that it makes, I can still confidently say it is copper. SWAG of The Day (Scientific Wild A** Guess) and further evidence as to why you always need to use multiple testing methods.
Hope you’re having a good one!
