600. That's how many volcanoes are between Flagstaff, Arizona and Grand Canyon National Park. This is an active volcanic region called the San Francisco Volcanic Field, filled with cinder cones and lava tubes like I explore in this video. Understandably overshadowed by the presence of the Grand Canyon to the northwest, these volcanoes are still incredibly fascinating to explore and learn about. Near Flagstaff, Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument is a great place to visit and learn about these volcanoes, though climbing any volcanoes within park boundaries is off-limits. Fortunately, the majority of the region's volcanoes are not within the monument's boundaries and are accessible to those willing to trek off the beaten path.
