6:56 What kind of maintenance needs to be done on a DTG printer if it is not being run every day?
We asked our followers on Facebook and Instagram to submit some of their questions about the custom apparel industry. So in today's episode we’re going answer some of the questions we received to help you navigate the ever-changing landscape of the custom apparel industry.
Question #1: What sets Ricoma apart from its competition?
The answer to this is twofold.
Firstly, we are the manufacturer. Purchasing directly from the manufacturer allows you to work directly with the factory instead of going through a middleman. This means that you’ll receive the most competitive pricing and top-notch support for your machine.
As you can imagine, middlemen won't have the same level of expertise in maintaining your machine as the company that actually built it. Being the manufacturer allows Ricoma to always keep all of the parts for our machines in stock. This allows us to offer faster support and service for your machine if you ever need a replacement part. Lastly, as the manufacturer, Ricoma is able to offer a more diverse selection of machines to our customers – including semi-commercial and commercial embroidery machines, as well as single and multi-head machines.
Another thing that separates Ricoma from the competition is that we offer our customers much more value all around with their purchase. While other companies will nickel and dime you for add-ons and accessories for your machine, Ricoma offers an all-inclusive package that includes a welcome kit with thread, bobbin, needles, backing, digitizing software, hands-on training, a toolkit with all the tools for setup and maintenance and a full cap embroidery kit at no additional cost. Furthermore, Ricoma is the only company in the industry to offer seven-day after-hours support. So we’ll always be here to support you every step of the way.
Question #2: How do you price your DTG services?
When pricing your services for DTG printing, or any decorating method for that matter, you need to take into account the time it takes you to complete each job and the cost of materials to customize your apparel.
You should always start with a target profit per hour. From there, you can work backwards to determine the price you should charge per item. Let’s say you receive a design from your customer that takes six minutes to print onto a t-shirt. That means you can print up to 10 shirts per hour. If you have a target profit of $50 per hour, you will need to charge $5 per t-shirt plus material costs.
Question #3: What kind of maintenance needs to be done on a DTG printer that’s not being used everyday?
First of all, both the RICOH Ri 1000 or Ri 2000 are considered walk-up ready. Since both have self-maintenance features – including an intelligent self-cleaning and white ink circulation system – both printers are always ready to print at any given time.
However, there is still some maintenance that you will need to do on a regular basis – such as occasionally shaking your white ink cartridge so that the ink doesn’t settle, lubricating your machine’s shafts, and cleaning the printer head. If you have the RICOH Ri-1000, you will have to clean the printer head manually. However, the RICOH Ri 2000 comes with a special head cleaning jig that you can use to clean the machine automatically.
