During a great era of temple building for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, President Russell M. Nelson called all temples a symbol of Jesus Christ.
“We're so blessed to have temples,” said President Nelson, who has announced more than 100 temples as Church president. “We'll have increasing numbers of temples as the Church grows. But it's not the number, and it's not the location. It's not the architecture. It's the ordinances inside.”
This Church News video, titled “A Symbol of Jesus Christ,” features an interview with President Nelson taped at the Washington D.C. Temple visitors’ center. Video footage showcases the renovated temple, the first Latter-day Saint edifice built in the eastern United States. Church leaders closed the temple in 2018 to renovate mechanical and electrical systems and refresh finishes. President Nelson rededicated the temple on Aug. 14, 2022.
“When you look at a temple, you should realize it is a symbol of Jesus Christ, as He is our mediator with the Father,” President Nelson said. “Only by Him and through Him can we reach our Heavenly Father.”
