Breaking the national 30-year average rainfall record in Pakistan, the monsoon flooding in 2022 have affected 33 million people, wiping out agricultural lands, livestock assets, forests and critical agricultural infrastructure. Rural communities, who represent 80 percent of the poorest people in Pakistan and depend on agriculture and livestock keeping for their livelihoods, were among the hardest hit by this disaster. With support from DG-ECHO, the Anticipatory Action Protocol for Riverine Flooding, developed by FAO with at-risk communities in Sindh, one of the provinces most hardly hit by seasonal and historical flooding, is designed to help the government and partners monitor potential impacts and use forecast information to trigger actions that can protect lives and livelihoods.
