Tarn is an adult male Grey-Headed Flying-Fox who ended up in a 3 storey deep light well courtyard in a terrace development.
He wasn't all that happy about being rescued and led me a bit of a chase around the plantings.
Courtyard entrapments are a fairly common rescue at the moment, with more bats in town, the juveniles getting their pilots licences (and frankly, not being all that good at the whole flight thing), and adult males looking for extra food so they can bulk up for the breeding season so they're buff, virile and gorgeous for the girls.
Tarn fell into the latter category, a healthy and bulky 900 grams in weight.
He has been in care for a few days, but he's not really a happy boy, having hit his head in his attempts to fly out of the light well. He's a survivor but not ready for a hard release back into the colony in the near future.
Yay, big boy Tarn.
His name came from the little pond in the lightwell garden, like a little fairy tarn.
