(7 Jan 2019) Serbs celebrated the arrival of Orthodox Christmas on Monday with a procession held in the Church of Saint Sava in Belgrade.
The church and its grounds were packed with worshippers, marking the significance of the biggest day in the orthodox calendar.
Patriarch Irinej, who led the service, was joined by Serbian Prince Aleksandar Karadjordjevic.
Serbian bakers prepared batches of Christmas bread, part of an ancient tradition in Serbia, which symbolises wealth and prosperity for the forthcoming year.
Inside one piece of bread, a lucky coin is hidden, and whoever gets it should have a happy and prosperous year to come.
This year, a little girl, Masa Kitanovic, was lucky as her piece of Christmas bread was the one that contained the coin.
