-Shaikh al-'Allāmah Ibn 'Uthaimin (auláay) stated that it is not allowed to send money for the sacrifice overseas as a means of feeding meat to the poor. People send the price of their sacrifice to poor countries where the meat is distributed. This behaviour in the most part is due to their ignorance of what the Shariah intends, and their ignorance of the Shariah rulings.
This conduct is not from the Sunnah, nor is there proof that the Sahäbah would do it. So, avoid it and perform the sacrifice in your communities and eat from the meat and share it-and this is from the great distinguishing signs of Islam and the Sunnah.
The sacrifice and slaughter of the animal is an act of nearness to Allah. If the money is sent overseas, one cannot eat from the sacrifice-and eating from the meat is something that is enjoined by Allah in His Book, and also established as the Sunnah of the Messenger (dugall), his family and his Companions. Furthermore, the Sunnah of 'Eid Al-Adha is not to eat until after the prayer, and then to eat from the sacrifice-that cannot be done if the money for the sacrifice is sent overseas.
Therefore, by sending it overseas, one has removed a great distinguishing sign of this day of 'Eid from his land.
If one truly wants to help the poor and feed them, send them your money so they can eat, alhamdulilläh.
