The conglomerate says the rumors are groundless.

Korean conglomerate Samsung has denied local rumors about the death of Chairman Lee Kun-hee.
A statement from the company denounced rumors circulating on social media that the business mogul had passed away... and said an official announcement from the company would be made on Thursday at 3 p.m.
It was also said his death had already been reported to the presidential office of Cheong Wa Dae.
The speculation was circulating on social media networks,... with investment communities anticipating a full leadership succession.
Shares for major Samsung affiliates under the group's ownership structure jumped around noon, up 8 percent from the day before, when the rumor on the death announcement was dispersed.
Samsung C&T closed almost five percent up from the day before,... Samsung SDS was up nearly 4 percent,... while Samsung Electronics rose two percent.
This is not the first time that false claims have been made concerning Chairman Lee,... after he was admitted to hospital two years ago following a heart attack.
A similar incident in April last year caused Samsung stocks to fluctuate,... leading to suspicions that the rumors were fueled by market manipulators to make gains from the rally.
With the group having shot down the latest rumor as groundless,... the Financial Supervisory Service and Korea Exchange are investigating whether the rumors were spread with malicious intent to manipulate stock prices.
