Without the traditional Sept. 7 parade due to the coronavirus pandemic, President Jair Bolsonaro participated on Monday morning in a flag-raising ceremony held in front of the Alvorada Palace, which he took part in without wearing a face mask.
Bolsonaro left in a Rolls Royce from the official residence and went to the place where the flag was raised. Before and after the ceremony, he greeted crowds.
The president, who has already been infected by COVID-19, took part in the entire ceremony without wearing a mask. Other authorities and personalities wore masks, such as Brazil's First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro, Vice President Hamilton Mourao and Economy Minister Paulo Guedes.
Brazil has 4.1 million cases of COVID-19, with 126,650 deaths, according to data from the Ministry of Health released on Sunday.
