The capital of Achham district Mangalsen falls in the far western part of Nepal. Baidyanath Temple is an important pilgrimage site near Sanfebagar in this district. The temple has its reference in Manas Khanda of Skanda Purana and is one of the four major temples of Shiva, in Nepal. This temple is in the confluence of Budi Ganga and Saraswati River in Achham and is said to be the place where Ravan came to meditate and was granted ten heads by Shiva who appeared in the form of Baidya or Healer.

Another popular attractions of Mangalsen are the Mangalsen Durbar an old palace built by the royal family of Achham. The palace was bombed and destroyed during the Maoist insurgency decades ago and is, therefore, under construction.

The nearest airport is at Dhangadi about 308.9 km travelers can take a bus from here and reach Mangalsen in about nine and a half hours. Moderate hotels and inns are available for accommodation.
