Published in Paris in 1584, this catchy tune depicts the bustling marketplace of the town of Arras, and tells of a Spaniard who offers a young woman money for unspecified services. A monophonic chant of this once popular tune is sung prior to the six-part polyphonic setting by di Lasso.
