Fighting games and the FGC have been growing throughout the years. But with the rise of its popularity, it’s easy to gloss over the older fighting games and smaller indie games that keep a part of the FGC very happy. Whether it’s kusoge, retro games, anime fighting games, free fighting games for PC, or even android fighting games. It’s important for major tournaments to embrace poverty games, as it’s also a part of what keeps the hype going. The Street Fighter 3: Third Strike community can still be just as loud as the Street Fighter 6 crowd at Evo. Let’s all make sure that poverty fighting games have a place to stay at supermajors like Evo.

What’s your favorte jank setups for playing poverty games in? I’ve been in many weird situations when it comes to fighting games. The bathroom tournament at the barber shop is definitely high up there, but I’ve also been in a situation where we had to prepare a speedrun setup at a bathroom. We’ve also done a grand finals at the parking lot, while connecting a CRT TV using a car, which I highly do not recommend. I’ve also held a tournament at a small island at a small cabin, and just invited random people even though they don’t play video games at all, but since there’s no internet in the island, we’ve just set up signups through a huge piece of paper that we hung at a wall with a pen that people can write their names in. We’ve also done tournament outside a college building when we went past the time limit. It’s actually fun being in these situations when I think about it. Memories like this is why I love poverty gaming so much. Every player in the FGC is just so determined to gather everyone just to play their favorite fighting game. It touches my soul all the time. It doesn’t matter if it is not the best fighting game of all time. As long as you’re having fun, that’s really the best part about it.
