🚙DESTINATION: Mount Gambier, South Australia.
📍WHERE: Mount Gambier is about 450 kilometres south-east of the South Australian capital Adelaide and just 17 kilometres from the Victorian border. Its the main urban centre of the Limestone Coast region.
❓⛏WHY: Few Australian city's could claim to have been built literally on the edge of an extinct volcano and to have a tourist industry built around the most extraordinary giant sinkholes. The geology of the area is fascinating!
📅WHEN: We visited at the end of spring.
🍽DINING: We had a great lunch at 😋Elementary by Soul Co , excellent breakfast 🍳Limstone Coast Pantry and delicious beers 🍺at Woolstore Brewery.
🏆HIGHLIGHTS: The city's volcanic crater lakes are interesting and so are the caves and sinkholes. There is an awesome 1 hour movie called Volcano which you can see at the Riddoch Arts and Culture Centre which explains the geology. Its really great. Some great old buildings in the city and lots of short scenic drives to take.
