In Afghanistan, incumbent President Ashraf Ghani has been declared winner of the presidential election that took place almost five months ago. After a bitterly fraught count, the election commission says he won a second term with just over 50 percent of the votes. His opponent Abdullah Abdullah refused to recognize the result, saying he would form his own government. The Taliban also rejected Ghani's victory. They are due to participate in peace talks with the government.
