Johan Friedrich Franz Burgmüller, German by birth, settled in Paris after 1832. He became popular there as a pianist and composer, improvising hundreds of salon pieces and composing much piano music for teaching purposes. Many of his short piano pieces, like this one, have programmatic titles.
