History of beds through the ages

100BC - First Sleeping Area. The First ever sleeping area was dirt.The ground was the first ever comfortable bed we slept in.

1000 - King Tut's Bed. In 3400 BC, the Egyptian pharaoh King Tut had a bed of gold, while the pesants slept on palm bows stashed in the corner of their rooms.

1100 - The First Waterbed was invented. beds decorated with gold, silver or bronze with mattresses stuffed with feathers, hay, wool, or reeds. The Romans were also the founders of the most-famous waterbed.

September 24th, 1300 - Bedsteads were made. In the 13th century luxury increased and bedsteads were made of wood much decorated with carved and painted designs.

1500 - Renaissance Beds came into place. During the 15th century marked the beginning of more luxurious mattresses.

1600 - First bed Frame was invented. The earliest beds, made in the 1600s, were shallow chests where bedding was placed.

1616 - Shakespeare's bed. When William Shakespeare died in 1616, he left his second-best bed and the furniture to his wife.

1800 - Spring mattress was invented. In the mid 1800s the inner spring mattress was created, it became a popular choice for the next 100 years.

1900 - Murphy Bed. Murphy Bed, the bedding idea of 1900 was invented by American William Lawrence Murphy. The space-saving Murphy Bed folds into a wall closet.

1950 - Synthetic Foam. In the 1950s Synthetic Foam was created. Unfortunately it was seen as a cheap and uncomfortable foam which got it a bad image.

I2000 - No-Flip beds. Simmons Bedding Company invented the no-flip mattress, a one-sided construction style that has since been adopted by most North American mattress manufacturers.
