(2 Aug 2018) Members of opposition parties gathered in Pakistan's capital Islamabad on Thursday for an All-Parties Conference (APC) to agree on a joint strategy for the opposition's future course of action following the July 25 general election.
The APC include the Pakistan Muslim League of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan Peoples Party, Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal, Awami National Party, Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, National Party and other opposition parties.
Sharif's party was defeated in general elections last month that saw former cricket star turned politician Imran Khan's party win the vote.
Khan is expected to form a coalition government and become prime minister later this month.
"We all have agreed that agitation against this election will continue outside and inside parliament", said Senator Sherry Rehman from Pakistan Peoples Party after the meeting.
The Pakistan Muslim League which came in second with 64 seats, along with the Pakistan Peoples Party, which won 43, a religious alliance known as the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal or MMA, with 12 seats, and the secular Awami National Party issued a joint declaration against the alleged vote rigging and suppression of the media.
They condemned the interference of "state agencies" in the election, a veiled reference to the military and intelligence apparatus.
