This season has been a tough one. I've had 3 different injuries to deal with. It started with the knee again (patellar tendinopathy) in the spring. Another tough , followed by a shoulder impingement right before the summer and lasting through the summer - still not gone but almost. Finally my achilles tendons had some trouble (achilles tendinopathy) towards the end of the season.

There are only 3 results that have reflected my ability/fitness this year: The 15k in the Euro Champs and both my races in the World Champs. I've been disappointed with how I've performed in all the other races, but the results have been good enough to keep me in the conversation about representing Norway on the National Team.

Lessons learned: Strength training is key! As an athlete in my mid-30s, a life of impact and minimal prehab caught up with me. I will admit that, but I won't let it stop me! These things can be rehabbed and fixed. I found that improving my Bulgarian Split Squat fixed my knee, while banded rotations and mobility fixed my shoulder. Standing on my toes and doing calf raises is fixing my achilles. These exercises will now be a part of my life moving forward and I intend to keep them going in order to enter the 2024 season stronger than ever!

Here's to another year in the sport! Next year's plan will be drawn up shortly, and will hopefully involve a trip to Georgia to the European Championships. Worlds will have to wait until 2025 hopefully since it's in Costa Rica next year. Costa Rica Costa LOT is what I say! Hopefully we also get some sponsorship for some of this.
