(3 Jan 2015) A US navy spokesman briefed reporters on Saturday on American assistance in the search for AirAsia flight 8501.
Lieutenant Commander Greg Adams, speaking in Pangkalan Bun, said the US navy has been working alongside Indonesian rescuers since Tuesday.
US Navy vessel USS Fort Worth arrived in the Java Sea on Saturday morning to assist with the search, Adams said.
"USS Fort Worth arrived in the Java sea as well, and is assisting in that search. Between the two ships there are three seahawk helicopters and as we saw yesterday, one of those seahawk helicopters brought 12 victims ashore and those victims have already been transferred ashore at this time."
Indonesian officials investigating the AirAsia crash said on Saturday morning, two large objects had been found on the sea floor.
The objects are located in water 30 metres deep and authorities are preparing to send down a ROV in the hope of capturing images.
AirAsia Flight 8501 crashed into the Java Sea on Sunday 28 December with 162 people on board.
