In the description of my Gold Frame Amatsu Hana video, I said that it had comfortably taken the crown as the most difficult kit I had built thus far. I don't know if it still holds that title anymore.
For those of you who are unaware, this is another kit from Daban, but this time of a mobile suit that has yet to appear in any way, shape, or form as an official Bandai kit. And after building it, I can kinda see why.
Firstly, this thing is huge. For a regular Gundam in 1/100 scale (and especially given that the suits from Wing tend to be on the small side) this thing is absolutely massive. Granted, that's mostly because of the wing units, which leads me into the stability. If it weren't for the two additional arms holding this thing's wing units up in the back, I'm pretty sure it would have already fallen apart. I can kinda see why Bandai isn't too keen on releasing a full kit; engineering a structurally sound kit that's up to their standards would be an absolute nightmare, and it would be for a mobile suit that's extremely niche in terms of popularity.
As for the build itself, I'd say it's about on par with what I went through for Gold Frame Amatsu Hana, albeit this one took far, far longer due to the wing units. Unlike Amatsu Hana, however, I was able to find a decal guide which made doing those a thousand times easier. When combined with the fact that this is the second most expensive kit I own, I can really only recommend this to hardcore Gundam Wing fans and/or hardcore Gunpla fans. Everyone else is probably better off with just the regular Wing Zero.
And just for the curious, this mobile suit is (somehow) not a fan-creation. It comes from the sequel to Gundam Wing, New Mobile Report Gundam Wing: Frozen Teardrop. My impression has generally been that people are a bit split on this one, though I can't say for certain as I'm not as familiar with it as I am wing Gundam Wing.
What I can say with certainty, however, is that I actually like this more than Wing Zero. Yes, I know, I've basically just committed Gundam heresy by saying that, but let me make my case. Wing Zero is supposed to (in my view) have this angelic, ethereal look to it that kinda clashes very hard with the colors and styling of the main suit, leaving it in an awkward middle ground between the original Wing Gundam/Proto-Zero and Snow White Prelude. I still like it fine, it's just that I think Snow White Prelude does what Wing Zero was trying to do a lot better. Your mileage my vary though.
Finally, what's next? Well, I have another kit all ready to go, this time from the Universal Century. I also have another kit that's waiting on a few extra parts. I originally thought they would be arriving next week, but there's a reasonably chance that they actually are able to get here before then. We'll see how things play out. Take care, and I'll see you next time.
