→ David Davis MP: Famous for 15 seconds
𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗚𝗢𝗔𝗟 𝗢𝗙 𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗫𝗜𝗧: 𝗧𝗢 𝗚𝗘𝗧 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗪𝗘 𝗔𝗟𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗬 𝗛𝗔𝗗
Back in December 2016, the then #Brexit Secretary, David Davis, was able to tell Parliament in less than 15 seconds the major criterion for the Brexit negotiations.
It was that: “we get the best possible access for goods and services to the European market.”
Which is exactly what we already had as a member of the #EU.
What’s more, Mr Davis added that he could be prepared for Britain to contribute to the EU budget to ensure Britain has access to the EU Single Market.
Which is exactly what we did as a member of the EU.
In America they have a saying, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.
What a complete waste of all our lives Brexit has been for these past 7+ years. We left the EU, only to try and get back what we already had.
EXCEPT THAT the Brexit we ended up with did NOT give us, “the best possible access for goods and services to the European market.”
We’ve lost frictionless trade with the rest of Europe. Brexit barriers have made exporting and importing goods more costly and more complicated, seriously hurting our businesses.
And we have entirely lost free and frictionless access for services, upon which the UK economy mostly depends.
On that basis alone, Brexit has been abject failure.
It’s impossible for Brexit EVER to give us the "best possible access" for trade with our neighbouring countries.
The ONLY way for Britain to have “the best possible access for goods and services to the European market” is to be a full member of the EU, or at least, in its Single Market.
But that’s something both the Tories and Labour have categorically ruled out, even though most people in Britain now support such an option.
When will politicians – on all sides of the political spectrum – tell us the truth and act in the best interests of Britain?
