The US and China are trying to prevent competition from boiling over into conflict. Chinese President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Joe Biden have talked over the phone for the first time in seven months. Relations between both powers are tense, with differences on issues like trade and the pandemic. According to Chinese state media -- which described the call as a "candid and in-depth discussion -- Mr Xi raised concerns over Washington's China policy. He added that the US, China and the world will benefit if both countries work together, but will suffer if they confront each other.
