Federal offices and schools will remain closed in the nation’s capital on Monday and public transportation will continue to be affected. State offices in Virginia and Maryland will also remain closed and the House of Representatives do not plan to hold any votes this week. Flights will be limited at Reagan and Dulles International Airports, which remained completely shut down Sunday, and more than 1,300 flights have already been cancelled. Meanwhile, New York City opened up subways, mass transit (pictured top right is an Amtrak train in DC) and roadways after closing and shutting down the systems to deal with the massive snowfall, which accounted for the second biggest blizzard the city has seen since 1869 (pictured main and bottom left are Virginia residents digging out a record two feet of snow). Thirty people have been reported dead as a direct result of the storm making it the the deadliest blizzard to hit North America in at least five years.
