Syriac chanting lessons given by a Malpan (teacher) to young seminarians at Malankara Syriac Orthodox Theological Seminary, Udayagiri, Mulanthuruthy, Kerala State, India. It is so appropriate that they are getting chanting lessons in Syriac hymns in the shadow of the icon of Mor Ephrem (St Ephrem the Syrian), the author of most popular Syriac Hymns.
The hymn they are chanting is the Boutho of Mor Afrem from the Second Qawmo of Lilyo (midnight prayers) of Monday from the shimo. The lyrics are:
moran eth-rahem-'layn
ba-slooth-hoon da-mneehonayk
ba-slooth-hoon wab-bo'uth-hoon
'bed rahme 'al nafshothan
nbeey d-b-rooho malluk:
shleehe d-sabar gelyonok
w-sohde d-meeth metul hoobok

The English translation is:
Lord have mercy up us by the prayer of your servants.
By their prayers and their petition have mercy on our souls
May the prophets who spoke of you by the spirit, the apostles who announced your revelation and the martyrs who died for your love, intercede with you for us; have mercy upon us.
Pray for us, holy ones, to him whose will you did, that he may withdraw and remove from us the scourge and rod of wrath.
